Pre/Post Cataract, LASIK and PRK Care

At South Island Optometry Centres we are proud to offer pre/post care for cataract, LASIK and PRK(photorefractive keratectomy) surgeries.

Post-op care for LASIK and PRK surgery is $500. LASIK post-op visits are at one week, one month, three months and six months after surgery. PRK post-op visits are forty-eight and seventy-two hours after surgery as well as one week, two weeks, one month, two months, three months and six months after surgery.

Pre-operative care for both LASIK and PRK includes:

  • assessment of ocular health before surgery
  • determining suitability for laser refractive surgery
  • determining type of surgery patient is best suited for
  • counseling patient with regard to expectations during surgery
  • counseling patient with regard to visual expectations after surgery
  • determining refractive, corneal, and visual acuity measurements before surgery
  • preparing a formal report which is sent to the laser clinic before surgery

Post-operative care for both LASIK and PRK includes:

  • assesment of ocular health following surgery
  • determining when corneal epithelium has healed sufficiently
  • removing bandage contact lenses when epithelium healed(PRK only)
  • advising patient on proper medications to use after surgery
  • advising patient on proper precaustions to take after surgery
  • counseling patient with regard to visual outcome
  • determining refractive, corneal, and visual acuity measuremnts following surgery
  • contacting the laser clinic regarding any abnormal or unusual findings
  • preparing formal reports which are sent to the laser clinic after each appointment
  • providing any extra appointments necessary during the three months after surgery
