History of the Practice
South Island Optometry Centres has its origins in a practice started by
Dr. David Pepper in 1964. Dr Pepper made quite a name for himself
fabricating and fitting his own contact lenses. Dr. Pepper had the
excellent reputation for fitting complicated cases and designing his
own soft, hard and toric contact lenses.
After receiving the letter of invitation, Dr Morrison and his wife
moved to Victoria in 1989. The following year, Dr Morrison moved the
practice from Feltham and Shelbourne St. to its present location on
3994 Shelbourne Street in the University Plaza.
In 1998 Dr Snow became a full partner of what was then,
University Plaza Optometry Clinic. On July 1, 1999, Drs. Morrison and
Snow purchased another optometry practice in Colwood from retiring
optometrist Dr George Lynn. Major renovations were done at this time at
the Colwood practice. In 1999 Dr Ann-Marie Stewart joined Drs. Morrison
and Snow as their associate to practice generally in the Colwood
location.
Recent major renovations to the Gordon Head location were completed in
the summer of 2001. Two more examination rooms were added as well as an
in-office lens edging machine and a much larger frame dispensary. The
office also has a large contact lens fitting inventory and continues to
specialize in this area of optometry. The practice name was changed at
this time to South Island Optometry Centres.
